Kai gyvūnai paplitę didelėje teritorijoje, Europos Bendrijos svarbos teritorijos atitinka šių rūšių natūraliame areale esančias vietas, kuriose yra jų gyvenimui ir dauginimuisi būtinų fizinių ar biologinių veiksnių.
